Translation required

Time for another one of those light hearted posts...

Bowls lingo...ever heard someone shout something out and think WTF?? Lets translate a few of the things heard on the green these days.
  • "Good weight!" = lousy line

  • "Good line" = lousy weight

  • "Good back bowl" = you were lucky you didn't put it in the ditch

  • "That's in their way" = that's in my way

  • "That could be useful up there" = that bowl is closer to you than it is to the jack

  • "Get it next time" = you sure didn't get it this time

And what about:

  • "good track!" and "great path" = good line...but your weight was woeful

  • "you're in the area" - you're close but not close enough

  • "good home" = you might get shot out of it later

  • "you're swimming" = you've gone in the ditch

  • "that's off the roof!" = you played a useless bowl and managed to get a decent result out of it

Those of us who play the game get it...and some of us even enjoy coming up with something different just to see if it sticks. It's actually one of the fun things about playing over east once in a while, you pick up a few new terms to bring home with you.

Maybe next time you'

re spectating a game, entertain yourself with a game of bingo.  Have a swig of "cordial" for every bit of lingo you hear...you know or every time you hear Cody Packer say great shot General! p.s. you may need a designated driver for that one.
